If you follow my Instagram account you know that I have an affinity for men with beards and glasses (more specifically, white men, with red hair and beards, and tattoos. Swoon) But yesterday, I came across the website, Can I Brush it that is dedicated to men with beards and glasses and those that love them. On the website is a hilarious video by Horse and Hammer that parodies the cool guy, hipster type you usually find with beards and glasses. I laughed at the video because it is cute, but at the end of it, I thought, “Oh no! Beard and glasses will probably be shunned by everyone!” Because whenever there is a parody of a trend, that trend usually phases itself out very quickly.
Then I thought of my “collection” of glasses. I have amassed close to 30 pair over the last few years, and although to some, non-prescription glasses is a fad that has been passed, it has become a mainstay to me. You see, I am bald (as if you didn’t know), and I have to switch my look up somehow. Lipstick and earrings are not enough all the time, so to do something different, I have turned to glasses. I like all shapes and sizes, but I prefer tortoise or black frames. And as a “collector” I do not mean someone that would pay hundreds of dollars for glasses, instead I prefer to spend between $5-$10 dollars at the local flea market or on Ebay to purchase my glasses. Again, as I try to wear what is in my closet, glasses help me create a fresh look without breaking the bank. Below, some of my glasses in constant rotation…
So, no matter what happens to the glasses “trend”, I will be riding this bandwagon for a while…
